Lucy's Birth Story

The first time Joseph met Lucy. He was SO sweet!!!

Mommy Joseph and Lucy

Joseph was very curious to see what was going on and just kept say "yummy arm"

Our First family picture. (dang labor fat face! haha)

I didn't get this up as soon as I want, but I figured I NEED to do it before I forget about it. Hopefully I can remember everything.

So I was induced so that I knew for sure that Tanner could be there with his work schedule, and my mom could be there with me as well. I was measuring pretty small I guess at my 38 week appointment so my ob set up an ultra sound the Thursday before I went in. Just to make sure my due date was right. Everything was perfect, she was just going to be a tiny thing, but that was expected since Joseph was tiny as well.

Sunday my mother in law took Joseph for the full day, so I spent it sleeping and spending the last "me time" I'd have in awhile. (Tanner works sundays) When Tanner got home from work we went right to bed. I actually had to turn my ipod in and listen to it to stop thinking about what was going to go down the next day. My labor experience with Joseph didn't go to good. (At the hospital setting up for Lucy the nurses were looking at Joseph and said they were surprised it didn't end up in a c-section) eeek. Anyways being pregnant and all you have to go to the bathroom like every 5 min. Finally at 6am after I went to the bathroom, AGAIN, I knew I wasn't going to be able to go back to sleep, so I turned on friends low so Tanner could sleep. It ended up he was awake and we just both kind of layed there thinking "holy cow we're having another baby. We'll have TWO kids" finally I got up and ate. showered. Shaved my legs because who knew how much pain I'd be in after delivery and when the last time I'd be able to shave again. haha. The morning seemed to DRAG since we weren't scheduled to go in until 12pm. Finally time got closer and I HAD to have a caramel hot chocolate from moxie Java. Tanner then got lunch at subway and we headed to my parents house so Tanner and my dad could give me a blessing.

After the blessing, Tanner, my mom, and myself headed to the hospital.

they got me all settled in and then they were having computer problems, they just kept coming up with my delivery with Joseph and couldn't get a new chart up (that's when they told me they were surprised he didn't end up a c-section)

Finally one of the nurses checked to see if I was dilated yet. (they said .5 cm) I wasn't happy, I had been having HORRIBLE contractions for weeks and at one point thought I was actually going into labor.

My ob finally came in about 12:30 and talked about using a pill they'd put in my cervix to soften it up. Then said hopefully I'd have her before midnight. (sigh that's why I was hoping for a 6am check in.) They said they weren't going to let me walk for awhile just to make sure Lucy took contractions good. One of the nurses (one that actually was there when I was in labor with Joseph to begin with) she put the pill in and said I was actually a 1cm the other lady was off.

So 1pm cervix put in.

LONG LONG LONG sitting around and being impatient. Its a good thing we brought my friends series. my ob had told me he'd check on me again at 5pm. SIGH. about 45 min after the pill contractions started but they weren't painful for me at all. They came and checked on me at 3pm I was only a 2 cm. It was long and boring.

about 4:45ish my ob came in and checked me himself I was only a 3cm. I wished so much they let me walk around I would of progressed more. Lucy wasn't having any problems at all with contractions. He then talked to me about breaking my water for me or starting pitocen. He asked what I wanted and I just responded with "well what would you suggest?" I didn't want to be the one to make the decisions he knew more. He suggested pitocen so that my cervix could soften a bit more. Once the pitocen started that meant NO walking at all. So I then requested to use the bathroom. I get up and realized there was blood everywhere and the nurses were excited because I had my "bloody show" it was pretty gross actually.

at 5:09pm they started the pitocen. I knew only because we asked haha.

I had requested my epidural then not because I was in any pain but because it was halloween and the nurses said it could take them awhile to get down here.

At 6pm they came and checked on me again still only a 3cm SIGH

They then informed me that an anesthesiologist called up to see if any ladies were in labor and they came and did mine.

I had it in about 6:15ish well he came to do it then. He had a hard time getting it in. (as did the one who did mine with Joseph) I just don't relax easily I guess.

By this time I got new nurses and a girl Leah I knew since like 7th grade ended up being my push nurse. (I'm not going to lie it was a bit awkward for me. Like REALLy awkward. haha)

Oh before I wanted them to put the epidural in I told them I had to use the bathroom so SUPER SUPER bad, but they told me to wait. Then the epidural was in and they wouldn't put the catheter in until I was more numb. ( I really really had to pee) finally they put it in. They came back saw the bag and said "wow you really did need to use the restroom" (Duh I wasn't just saying it)

8:35pm they came in and checked me. only 4cm... but they broke my water then

more waiting waiting waiting. they came and checked me again at 10:40pm only 5cm. (the 2nd labor I was hoping to go by SO much faster) but Lucy was doing good and that's all that mattered.

I noticed I could then move my legs and it scared me. I did not want to feel labor, I do not do good at all with pain and I'm to much of a wimp but It just ended up feeling my legs not any contractions. (oh about 9:30ish I decided that I should involve my mother in law in this. She wasn't able to be there for my sisters in law and she had seen me deliver Joseph so I figured all has been seen.) I invited her and she was more then happy to be there, even though she had to be at work the next morning.

finally 11:15 they come in and check me. I was between a 6-7cm sigh. My dad was texting my mom going "hahaha she won't have her halloween baby" but I didn't care about that I just wanted my baby girl here and done with the whole pregnancy/labor thing. plus a baby on 11/1/11 would be cool. Leah then had me go onto my left side.

Right then I started feeling contractions and pain. I was NOT happy, I just complained I shouldn't be feeling any of this at all. It was close and hurt worse and worse. about 5 min later I asked her to check me again. I didn't feel any need to push but the pain was hurting. guess what I was a 10cm and ready to push. She went and got my ob (he had just been waiting. I think he was the on call doctor that night) They didn't even have me do any practice pushes.

So my sister calls at 11:28pm (she was impatient and wanted to know details my mom said "she's about to push call you later") well then they have my mom take one leg, my mother in law take the other and tanner hold my hand (per my choice) My OB didn't even bother sitting down they tell me to push and said "theres a head" told me to push again shoulders. Lucy was born at 11:34pm I seriously didn't even push for 5 min! my mother in law was just amazed as was my mom. My mom then got to cut the umblical cord. (Tanner was not interested in it at all). All I could do was look and make sure she was a she. once I saw that she was a she I laid back, they put the towel on me and I got to hold her RIGHT away (I didn't get that with Joseph) She was amazing. so beautiful had a little cry. I got to kiss her and look at her. I felt so close to my Heavenly Father then. He trusted me with another one of his little spirits and I couldn't be happier. :-D I just started tearing up. (I had a friend (who had the same ob as me comment on how her and her husband always wondered why men decided to go into this medical field. our ob was a man. But her husband said that once he delivered their baby daughter the smile on his face said he even then thought about experiencing that.) So I made sure to look at his face and he had just the biggest grin. After they took Lucy to get her checked and all that the first question I asked my ob was "did I tear" I tore HORRIBLY BAD with Joseph and was not looking forward to that again. He had yet to check but shortly after just said "nope no tearing you're just a little bruised" WOO freaking HOO!!! Can I just say the whole not tearing or anything is AWESOME, all I had to take was ibprofen. :-)

Oct. 31, 2011 11:34pm my beautiful daughter Lucy was born weighing exactly 6lbs even. 19 1/2 inches tall.
